Dream 1: "The Point of Initiation"
I remember that about a week ago, I went through a scaled down version of this ceremony. Two hand things were done. he rode on my back for a minute then I rode on his. Now we are gathered here for the full ceremony. We are in what looks like a garage. There are others standing around and watching with joy. The man holds a knife against my hand in different positions and recites a different blessing for each position. [I don’t remember the exact phrases. They were only something like, what follows.]
First position: Tip of the knife against the top of my hand… “May the point of this prayer sink into you.”
Second position: Edge of the knife against the top of my hand… “May this be the edge of the future (between what was and what is to be)”.
Third position: Side of the knife against my hand… “May you always be on the side that is right.”.
Position 4: Back of the knife against my hand, blade up… “May your efforts be directed correctly.”
Position 5: Knife under my hand… “May you be supported in times of trouble.”.
[I don’t remember the exact phrases. I only remember the first 3 positions. I’m not sure how many positions there were. I have the feeling he said something like…] “May your scars be reminders of the adversities you have overcome.”. There is mention of injustice and mistreatment that we (our people) have endured in the past. Someone climbs onto my back for a moment. Then I get on the man’s back and he carries me around the room for a few seconds. Every one is smiling or laughing, celebrating the moment. I though it was done, but now there seems that there is one more step. [Fading] There is a woman. She is far away. I see her across the room but I think she is really many miles away. We talk. [When I wake, all I remember is the part about the woman at the end, but I remember it clearly. It seems of no significance. As I start to write it, the rest comes back to me. As I write that, I forget what happened at the end.] [Associations: Last night I went to a bar I’ve never been to before. They had a karaoke contest. I didn’t win, but I sang well and some people told me that I should have won. I also played many games of pool. It was partners, so I had to “carry” a guy who wasn’t as good a player.]
